Cycling Proficiency Badge

Robert_scott_cubs_on_bikesWe had beautiful weather for a great first meeting on the Formosa Meadow this week. We cycled round an obstacle course until we were all exhausted and then acted out road safety adverts in our sixes - everyone was wearing a helmet.

On May 17th Saddle Safari of Marlow are coming to show us how to maintain our bikes to complete the cyclist badge. Next meeting will be lots of fun and games as we compete against a points chart to gain our athletics badge. Make sure you are wearing suitable footwear ( no wheely trainers please! )

See you there!

Cub Activity Badges that can be undertaken at home

If you would like to undertake some Cub Activity badges whilst not at an organised Cub meeting, we have compiled a list of suitable badges together with the tasks that should be undertaken.

The next badge assessment evening will be at the beginning of next term. This will provide the opportunity for showing the leaders the completed tasks and badge requirements.

Robert Scott Cubs come 2nd at the District Flag Competition

Robert_scott_flag_comp_2nd_001On Sunday 26th February a team of 6 cubs from the Robert Scott pack went to the District Flag competition at Altwood school. The cubs in the team were:

Harry Woolley
Daniel Mills
Bruno Renucci
Tom Bright
Joshua Rollett
Christian Brown

There were 14 teams there from Cub packs around Maidenhead.

At the competition we had to carry out a number of tasks and tests. These were: kit inspection, first aid, obstacle course, tracking, Kim’s game (a memory test), knots, ball skills, general and scouting knowledge, the Royal family, country code, map reading skills and sound identification.

My favourite was the obstacle course. We each had to sit in a go-kart and go round a course as quickly as we could, trying not to crash! Joshua, Christian and Daniel tipped over when they did their full circle turn.

For the first aid test Daniel and Harry did a worksheet, me and Bruno had to make a sling and Joshua and Christian had to resuscitate a dummy.

The team got points for each task which were added up to get the final score. In the end we came 2nd  with 249 points and Pinkneys Green won.

Robert Scott have an exciting day at the Cub Swimming Gala

Sncsswimming_1 Well done to all the swimmers who talk part in Saturday's Cub Swimming Gala, you will all receive certficates to show that you have taken part.  Thank you to the parents and Cubs who helped and supported on the day - it was good to see Cubs supporting our swimmers.

Congratulations to Jack and Harrison who both came second in their races.  Joe, Jack and Fred swam an excellent Medley Relay and were way out ahead. A small mistake in the heat of the moment meant that they were disqualified but we were all proud to see how hard they swam and would have easily have won.

Stassw2 All those who took part are now likely to be able to receive their Swimming Badge.  The Swimming Badge comes in five stages, see http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/badges/staged-sw.htm.  Please download and print out the form at the bottom of this posting if you wish to apply for stages 1 to 3.  We sometimes allow parents to verify the various activities listed in stage 1 but would prefer a swimming teacher, please speak to Akela. However, for stages 2 and above we do ask that a swimming teacher or coach sign off the various tasks.

Cubs perform Robin Hood and woo audience with amazing machine at Pinder Hall

Rs_christmas_play_a_2005Both plays by David Livingstone and Robert Scott Cubs were well received by parents and guests.  Gill Hill the Assistant District Commissioner visited and said:

I thought the machine was excellent, supported by hard work behind the scenes and Maid Marians hair was something else. It was a tremendous effort and I hope the cubs enjoyed it as much as the audience.

Everybody agreed that the Cubs did very well but unfortunately we do not have many photos.  Here are some photos of the Robert Scott play Robin Hood.

Robert Scott Cubs raise £100 for Longridge

Cubs_presenting_money_to_graham_bucknell Last night Robert Scott Cubs presented £100 to Graham Bucknell of the Longridge Scout Boating Centre.  The money goes towards saving Longridge as a boating centre for local young people - see Friends of Longridge

Cubs_selling_toys_at_their_bring_and_buy

The money was raised by the Cubs at their annual 'Bring and Buy' evening. The Cubs sold cakes, toys, books and organised a raffle and tombola.  The Cubs set everything up and then later invited parents, families and friends to attend and 'spend'.  The event was held on a normal Cub evening at the Scout Hut.  David Livingstone Cubs are having their 'Bring and Buy' tonight so we all wish them the best of luck.

Remembrance Day Evening

John_copping_talking_to_the_cubs_about_t_1 On Wednesday Robert Scott Cubs looked at what it was like to live through the war.  We had a helmet, gas mask and various other items on loan from Maidenhead Heritage Centre. John Copping from the Royal British Legion kindly talked about his experiences during the war and explained what the Royal British Legion do and why we wear poppies.

Later the Cubs made poppies and wrote the names of all those who gave their lives listed on the War Memorial in Cookham on the back of the poppy.  The Cubs then wrote messages on the front of the poppies.  Then at the end of the evening each Cub took a turn to place aRobert_scott_handmade_remebrance_day_wre_1 poppy onto a wreath and make the Scout salute.  This was a very dignified and solemn occasion and I'm sure that all parents present were very proud of the Cubs as they took this act of remembrance very seriously. The photo shows the finished wreath.

Christmas Show - Robin Hood

Sncskaryoke As you know we are doing a Christmas Show with David Livingstone on the 30th November.  Robert Scott's play will be Robin Hood and the script can be downloaded here - Download robin_hood_v2.doc

We would also like to thank Ian Taylor of 19th Maidenhead Scouts who wrote this play.
